Maurizio’s fascination with grapes and wine began when he was just 8 years old, during a memorable harvest with a colleague of his Father’s. At that time, enology as we know it didn’t exist, so he began his studies in agricultural science and became an agronomist. For several years he worked under a renowned winemaker, from whom he learned a great deal, experimented and grew within his profession.
Since 2008, Maurizio is an independent consultant and decided to use his skills in different areas of Tuscany and beyond. Bold, creative and original, his approach is unique.
Whichever producer he works with, Maurizio adapts his knowledge to the place, using the vines that work best in specific soils and maturing the wines slowly before release. Considered a specialist in white wines, he’s a huge fan of Vermentino and sparkling wines. His great passion amongst red varietals is for Sangiovese and Syrah.
Since their first encounter, the Bertherats and Maurizio have discovered many shared passions and the same entrepreneurial spirit.
